| A message from Robert Falvey, Owner and President Family Owned And Operated New Deal Furniture first opened for business in 1947. From one store and one employee, we’ve grown into one of the largest furniture showrooms in El Paso, with over one hundred employees and a loyal and ever-expanding customer base.
Back when our store first opened, our original name was New Deal Mercantile, and we served the El Paso community as a general mercantile store. We carried everything from groceries, tires, radios and batteries. With support from my father-in-law, Henry Silva, we added a showroom, which became known as the New Deal Mercantile Furniture Annex. I filled the showroom with furniture, and I was the buyer, delivery boy, salesperson and janitor, I selected quality furniture that would appeal to people of any income level and we backed that up with friendly customer service.
The first years in business were challenging, but very rewarding. I have been fortunate to have the support of my wife, children and now grand children. They have put in countless hours in making our business stand out as one of the Southwest’s premiere furniture stores. From a little one room store, we have grown into one of the largest furniture stores in El Paso. At New Deal Furniture we carry a comprehensive selection of furniture, including such name brands as Broyhill, Bassett, La-z-boy, Stanley, Sealy, Flexsteel and Lane Home Furnishings. Yet the large open showrooms are not a sea of endless sofas, but rather are arranged into comfortable home settings, such as dining rooms, entertainment centers, bedrooms and master suites, each tastefully decorated by the store’s interior designer. This helps our customers visualize a room, and give them a sense of what it would look like in their own home. In order to provide a large inventory, we constructed our own 50,000 square foot warehouse. Our warehouse enables us to guarantee prompt delivery on all in-stock items, unlike many local furniture stores, which are strictly, display stores that have to order their merchandise from out-of-town distribution centers. An in-house service department is available to address any customer concerns, questions or issues. Customers appreciate the fact that we respond immediately if there are any problems. More than 30 percent of financing for purchases is done in-house, providing an added convenience for buyers. We offer a wide variety of finance programs for all credit ratings.
New Deal remains family owned and operated, my son John is the general manager, and is an important fixture in the El Paso Community. Many of our customers have been trading with the Falvey family since the earliest days when New Deal Furniture was known as New Deal Mercantile, people appreciate working with a local business. In addition to a full line of furniture, we also carry a wide selection of name-brand home appliances and electronics, such as Samsung, Magic Chef, JVC, LG, Maytag and Frigidaire. In 1991, we opened our second 64,000 square-foot, two story showroom at 7130 Gateway East, just off Interstate 10 at the Hawkins exit. Customers know the location of the store by its prominent parking lot signage. The added capacity enables us to provide an even greater selection for our customers. New Deal prides itself in providing every customer with the highest level of service available.
In 2009, New Deal Furniture was named Retailer of the Year by the Arizona Home Furnishings Representatives Association (AHFRA). Out of hundreds of furniture stores in West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada the AHFRA selected New Deal Furniture as the regions number one retailer. This is a first for any El Paso furniture store. Robert Falvey, Owner and President New Deal Furniture |
